Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation. It typically appears as symmetric blotchy patches on the cheeks, nose, forehead, chin or upper lip. Melasma can affect anyone but is more commonly seen in women. Avoiding UV exposure and ensuring you wear sunscreen is the best way to help prevent melasma and ensure existing melasma does not worsen.
