The Ribchester Helmet is a rare Roman cavalry sports helmet from late 1st to early 2nd century AD, made of copper alloy with a full face-mask visor and fittings for a crest box and trailing streamers. It was found in 1796 at Ribchester, Lancashire, when a clogmaker’s son playing behind his father’s house uncovered a corroded mass that turned out to be the Ribchester Hoard, mostly cavalry parade gear and military awards. #roman #history #armor #artifacts #historygeek
