The warmth will be accompanied by extreme wind setting the stage for dangerous fire weather conditions. Sustained winds between 20 and 40 mph will occasionally gust over 60 mph across western Kansas. Any wildfire, no matter how it gets started, will quickly grow out of control and red flag warnings are in effect across the state.

Storm Team 12 issued a Weather Alert Day for Tuesday for most of Kansas’ western half due to an elevated fire concern.
Wichita Falls and North Texas have seen the last of falling ice and snow for awhile but not the cold. An extreme cold warning ended Monday morning, but the National Weather Service issued an extreme cold advisory for the region through 10 a.m. Tuesday.
