An internal email referring to a new wave of redundancies was sent to a number of Amazon employees before being cancelled.

Amazon has confirmed that it’s letting go of 16,000 workers and employees across its organization.

Beth Galetti, a senior vice-president at Amazon, said in a blog post on Wednesday that the company has been "reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy."

Amazon said Wednesday it was slashing another 16,000 jobs across the company in an ongoing bid to restructure the sprawling trillion-dollar firm.

US online retail and cloud computing giant Amazon said Wednesday that it would be cutting 16,000 jobs worldwide as part of a restructuring, as it focuses spending on artificial intelligence.

Amazon said this week that it was closing almost all of its Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh locations within days as it narrows its focus on food delivery and its grocery chain, Whole Foods Market.
